Developed by Linda Smith Swerdlow, the patented 3rd Foot Cane™ by Aligned As Designed helps improve balance and postural stability in a lightweight and truly innovative design. The comment we hear most from people who now use the Aligned As Designed Cane is how much more stable they feel, especially going up and down the stairs. They are excited about their improved mobility and their relieved pain in their wrist, hand and shoulder. The patented Aligned As Designed Cane has been thoughtfully crafted to provide a mechanical advantage without having to extend the arm outside of the user's natural base of support to maintain balance thereby allowing a more balanced gait.
Most canes offer a peg for support. Some offer four pegs. The Aligned As Designed Cane transcends all this with carefully crafted geometries found nowhere else.
The Aligned As Designed Cane is designed with a unique foot that focuses on the biomechanical motions of heel-strike and toe-off to help foot circulation and synovial fluids critical for proper mobility.
As you use the Aligned As Designed Cane, the motion created helps provide the first steps toward better postural alignment and improved locomotion.
The unique design of the patented Aligned As Designed Cane provides a larger base of support and helps rotate the pelvic girdle upright of a more balanced and comfortable gait
A unique and patented shaft angle helps locate your center of gravity over your feet for better postural alignment.
The Aligned As Designed Cane's unique angled shaft helps rotate the pelvic girdle upward, which allows for a more upright stance. Your center of gravity is now positioned over your feet while the forward angle of the shaft promotes a forward-looking gait. This helps keep your head up, your field of vision wider and your cognitive processing speed faster.
The top of the cane shaft is set farther back than the bottom. This is done to maintain the arms natural alignment with the shoulder girdle and to reduce the distance between the axis of the hip joint and the contralateral hand. This design helps feet strike the ground from heel to toe. When the feet strike the ground from heel to toe the body has greater balance, stability and core strength.
When the gait cycle has reciprocal movement, the shoulder, hip, knee and ankle joints work together to load the weight of the body over and on the foot within the body's natural base of support.
The contact area is contoured to provide linear support up through the shoulders.
The bottom of the foot has been carefully shaped to provide a wide contact area. This allows the shaft and thus the cane to provide lateral support up through the shoulders to help move the shoulders upright and maintain your center of gravity over your base of support. This especially helps with maneuvering in tight spaces.
Combining the angled shaft with carefully tuned lengths in front of and behind the shaft helps keep the body aligned
The line-of-support running from the ground contact point up through the body is constantly changing with the The Aligned As Designed Cane. As the cane is brought down in front of you, the resilient bead on the heel provides an initial support in heel-strike. As you move forward, the large contact area rolls forward to a natural toe-off support position. The combination provides for better stability and balance.
At just over 20 ounces, it's easy to use and carry
The foot of the Aligned As Designed Cane has been engineered as a hollow reinforced structure, which allows a generous landing area without the associated weight of traditional quad canes. A standard cane weighs about 15 ounces, while a typical quad cane can weigh 28 ounces or more. Coming in at a little over 20 ounces, the Aligned as Designed Cane is easy to hold, easy to use and easy to carry.
Height adjustment at either the top or bottom ends allows easier adjustments, and can be made small enough to fit in the overhead compartment!
The Aligned As Designed Cane's patented three-piece shaft design allows a generous 17-inches of height adjustment. It's perfect for younger users while it can be compacted down to 21-inches to fit in backpacks. It's also small enough to fit within airline carry-on size and overhead bins so you can keep it with you on the plane. No longer will you need to leave your cane with the flight attendant!
The height can be adjusted at the top and at the bottom, making it easier to adjust the cane height when climbing or descending stairs, or getting up from a chair.
A durable core with a resilient cover provides a silent yet confident grip.
The unique and patented SureGrip™ foot and handle are a two-part construction of a rigid core with a resilient over-molded rubber. The generous rubber sleeve is made of a soft yet durable synthetic rubber built to withstand the rigors of daily use. Treads defined in the bottom of the foot help push away fluids for a more secure grip on wet surfaces.
